Shannon Smith, MD

Dr. Shannon Smith received her B.A. degree in 2004 from Wake Forest University graduating Summa Cum Laude with a distinction of honors in Psychology. She remained in North Carolina and went on to receive her M.D. from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2008. She moved to Boston for her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Tuft-New England Medical Center where she completed her training in 2012. While at Tufts, she distinguished herself amongst her peers receiving recognition for her outstanding performance as a minimally invasive surgeon and for her excellence in outpatient care.

Certifications and Memberships

Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (FACOG) and Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology. She is a member of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ACOG), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Massachusetts Medical Society, and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL).

Publications and Honors

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Smith has published abstracts and online articles covering subjects ranging from infectious disease in pregnancy to a variety of minimally invasive surgical topics. She has presented research at the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists’ (AAGL) annual meeting. Current research interests include exploring exercise/diet and their influence on weight gain/loss in both pregnancy and the post-partum period.

Location and Specialties

Dr. Smith has admitting privileges at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital and the Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital. Additionally, she serves on the faculty at Harvard Medical School. She has a general Obstetrics & Gynecology practice with an interest in adolescent/young woman health care, contraception, general obstetrical care, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
